Ask anyone to list the poshest parts of Greater Manchester and you can bet on a few particular districts coming up in the conversation. Taking it borough by borough, Heaton Chapel and Moor carry some serious weight in Stockport, their leafy streets filled with great places to eat and drink, and one of the UK’s most charming independent cinemas. In the city proper, Didsbury, Chorlton and — between the two — West Didsbury might come out on top for similar reasons. And, of course, Salford has semi-rural Worsley. Then we come to Trafford, home to some of the most exclusive neighbourhoods of all. Like Hale, for example.
An urban village on the very southern edge of Altrincham, just as the metropolis gives way to the Cheshire plains, Hale is renowned for huge homes and people who bring in huge pay checks. And so as you would expect, it boasts more than a few amazing places to eat. Cibo is one — part of a mini-chain that you’ll only find in well-heeled areas (with other locations in King Street, central Manchester, and Wilmslow). Keeping up appearances, this contemporary Italian eatery is situated on landmark Victoria Road, and boasts an interior which is equal parts elegance, sophistication, and city slicker cool.
Of course, the roof terrace is the real talking point, offering guests a chance to dine beneath a canopy of stars — easily up there with the most memorable places to indulge in the region and a popular choice with celebrities. Menu wise, expect authenticity to run throughout the various courses here, with a strong selection across Antipasti, Carne, Pesce, Pasta and more. Cibo’s wine list is just as accomplished, celebrating all Italy and Sicily’s viticulture regions, and running from reasonably priced to rare and luxurious bottles.
