To say a lot has changed since The Koffee Pot first put the kettle on would be like saying Manchester’s a different place today compared with 1978. Close to 50 years in the breakfast business speaks volumes about how loved this Northern Quarter institution is. Now located around the corner from its previous address, at the Ancoats end of Oldham Street on the edge of the neighbourhood, the setting means there’s more room inside than ever before, although with an expanded offering — plating well into the evening — demand has also never been higher.
Cafe by day, taco joint by night, whatever time you visit The Koffee Pot is bound to have attracted a demographic that defines this corner of town — hipsters next to goths next to old school Mancs and just about everyone in between. They’re all here for the same reason, the quality of the food and drink, with the bar here serving what could be the best Bloody Mary in the city centre alongside other cocktails, quality, largely-small brewery-sourced beers, wines and — of course — excellent coffee. The teas are top too, if that’s more your thing.
Menus are reassuringly up front, with daytime sections for Brekkie & Brunch, Bagel & Sourdough, Pancakes & Waffles doing pretty much what they say on the tin. And doing it very well, we might add. Don’t miss the Manc Muffin, which comes with Bloody Mary ketchup, or the Turkish Eggs. Then as the evening sets in things switch up and the Birria Brothers take over, serving some of the finest and most authentic tacos in the area (and competition is high arounf these parts). Ideal for informal evening dinner, pre-s to fuel before that big night out, next day recovery, or just a nice lunchtime meet up, we’re not sure where town would be without Koffee Pot.
