Permanent Orbit has carved out its own lane in Manchester’s ever-growing vintage scene. Set in the ABC Building on Quay Street—next door to fellow fashion tastemakers Clints—it brings a sharp eye and buyer’s instinct to a part of town not traditionally known for clothes shopping.

Founded by former sportswear buyer Joe Sharpe, Permanent Orbit is built on a belief in extended lifecycles. Every scuff, stain or stitch tells a story, and the selection here celebrates exactly that. Racks are filled with decades-old Carhartt, stacks of faded Levi’s, graphic t-shirts with cult status, and jackets that have already lived a life but still have plenty left to give. There’s no filler here—just handpicked, unisex vintage with substance and soul.

Joe’s buying background shines through in the edit. Think 1970s Levis 501s, varsity pieces with real history, paint-flecked chore coats and the kind of worn-in caps that money (usually) can’t buy. Alongside the clothing, you’ll also find a tight range of homeware that mirrors the store’s philosophy—pieces that show their age, and wear it well.

Prices reflect the quality and rarity of what’s on offer, ranging from affordable entry-point finds to true collectors’ items. Permanent Orbit isn’t about digging through piles; it’s about discovering something meaningful. And while you can browse online, the in-store experience is half the appeal. The space, like the stock, feels considered—quietly stylish and built for exploration.

Whether you’re into Americana workwear, cult band merch or one-off pieces with a past, this is the kind of place that rewards your attention. Style hunters, music fans and design lovers alike will find plenty to get stuck into. A proper detour-worthy destination.
