Proudly independent and family run, The Bread Club sets its sights on the USA for its business model, focusing on large American-style sandwiches served on hoagies and other artisanal breads. Breathing new life into the local butty landscape in and around the increasingly sought-after Eccles suburb of Monton, this ambitious but down-to-earth delicatessen first began buttering its slices in 2022, and quickly shook up the lunchtime food scene in the area.

Almost immediately achieving ‘local institution’ status, while ideas for fillings and other menu items are plucked directly from the States the team make it clear the place is “unapologetically northern” in attitude,  and incredibly forward-thinking in terms of the food itself. From classic sarnies like The Bread Club, Tuna Crunch, and New York-style Reuben, to far rarer beasts such as the Taco Chicken Hoagie — which is exactly what it sounds like, minus the flour shell bit — and The Cubano, where ham, pulled pork, pickles, English mustard, and melted Swiss cheese become one in an unforgettably flavour filled experience.

If all that sounds too meaty, those that don’t partake will be happy to see the limited veg-only creations are similarly out of this world, with Chickpea By The Sea star of the show thanks to its combination of smashed chickpeas, avocado, cranberry, rocket, red onion and spinach on whole grain bread. Elsewhere, chips get a section of their own — aptly named The Chip Club, — and come either as nature intended, with onions and peppers (salt and pepper style), or with either veggie or chicken taco fillings on top. A range of “too-long shakes” is also available, and this place also plies a strong trade in cakes and pastries, so that means homemade cinnamon swirls, Biscoff brownies, vegan brownies, mars squares and more on offer over the counter for anyone with a sweet tooth.
