There is a specific kind of confidence that comes with eating at a restaurant where the kitchen is only separated from the fishmonger’s counter by a few feet of floorboard. The Easy Fish Co. has been a fixture of Heaton Moor since 2008, and while it started life as a specialist deli, it has matured into one of the most reliable seafood spots in Greater Manchester.

The logic here is simple: they deal in high-volume wholesale for some of the region’s best kitchens, so the produce moving through their own doors is about as fresh as it gets this far from the coast. It’s a bright, modern space that manages to avoid the “deckchairs and anchors” clichés of coastal dining, opting instead for a clean, understated interior that lets the food do the talking.

The menu follows a similar philosophy. You’ll find the staples done properly—crispy tempura, classic fish and chips, and well-executed moules-frites—but the real draws are the daily specials. These depend entirely on what’s come off the boat that morning, ranging from whole grilled seabass to South Coast scallops. It’s the kind of cooking that respects the ingredients enough not to drown them in unnecessary sauces.

For those who prefer to do the heavy lifting at home, the front of the shop remains a dedicated fishmonger. The staff behind the counter know their stuff, offering the kind of advice on prep and seasoning that you just won’t get at a supermarket checkout. It’s a dual-purpose setup that serves the neighborhood perfectly: go in for a morning sea bream to cook for dinner, or stay for a glass of crisp white wine and a plate of oysters when you can’t be bothered with the washing up.

While they’ve since expanded into Wilmslow, the Heaton Moor original retains that “local gem” feel that earned it a spot in the Good Food Guide. It’s unpretentious, professional, and easily some of the best seafood you’ll find without a view of the Atlantic.
