If there’s a borough that has exploded in life over recent years then it’s probably Stockport. The area ranks among the region’s best for food and drink, and Cheadle, a village that dates back far enough to appear in the Doomsday Book, proves the action is not just confined to the town centre. It’s here we find The Rectory, a design-heavy craft ale, cocktail and wine bar packed with personality, from the drinks being served by friendly, passionate staff, to the interior decor, with its brightly coloured statement walls, eye-catching light fittings and signed music murals on the doors and ceiling.

Of course, the biggest selling point is the menu, which offers an extensive selection of locally produced draught beers, a great choice of wine and plenty of spirts, mixers, and mixology happening, too. Alongside classics including Long Island Ice Tea, Mojito, and the Old Fashioned, you’ll also find a number of lesser known concoctions. For example, bubbly citrus creation Sky Blue. Or the Side Car, a tart, dry drink which combines cognac, orange liqueur, fresh lemon juice, and is presented with a sugared rim. Then there’s the Aviation — gin, maraschino liqueur, fresh lemon juice and creme de violette, offering a floral finish on the palette.

The Rectory is also a haven for those after a beer to take away, offering an impressive selection of imported European bottled brews either to enjoy in the bar or at home. These range from the likes of Augustiner Braü Munchen Edelstoff and Bitburger Premium Pils, two perennially popular choices, to far less common options. Such as Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold, König Pilsner, and Weihenstepjaner. All that aside, customers will also find a busy programme of live music here, with local artists and talent from further afield playing each Friday and Saturday on most weekends. If you have an event that needs a home, there is also the opportunity to book The Rectory for private hire.
