Luxury shopping and eating destination Harvey Nichols have teamed up with American Airlines and Manchester Airport to bring you a weekend of exciting in-store events including cocktails, dinner and the chance for customers to win a trip to the good ol’ US of A.
They’ve partnered with American Airlines, who are celebrating the introduction of daily flights directly from Manchester Airport to New York JFK, Philadelphia, Chicago and onwards to over 240 destinations in North America – perfect for all you Uncle Sam enthusiasts out there.
Kick starting the weekend early, the celebrations begin on Wednesday 28th June where the Harvey Nichols Wine Shop, famed for stocking some of the finest wines in the city, will be showcasing a selection of 6 American wines during a special tasting session. Hosted by Resident expert Richard Fenn, he will take you on a wine tasting road-trip around the States – all accompanied by a selection of nibbles from the Foodmarket Delicatessen.
Friday 30th June will see the Second Floor Bar and Brasserie open up their check-in desks for people to come and enjoy a delicious three course dinner menu, themed on the American Airlines ‘Flagship Business’ in-flight dining experience, while sipping on themed cocktails before guests take a seat at a special screening of Academy Award nominated film – American Hustle.
Set in the 70’s and based on a true story, American Hustle tells the tale of Irving Rosenfeld played by Christian Bale and his attempts at performing a sting operation with the FBI. Also starring everyone’s favourite ginger – Amy Adams, and Bradley Cooper, the movie was the darling of the 2014 Academy Awards with 10 nominations.

Saturday 1st July is when things really get going with live DJ sets (from 12pm), free flowing cocktails (from 2pm) and complementary tasters throughout the day in store, all created in collaboration with American Airlines and Manchester Airport. Guests will experience a gorging of events throughout the store including exclusive pop-ups and fashion personalisation from US brand Uzma Bozai, summer swimwear styling tips from Melissa Odabash and the opportunity to customise must-have Tumi travel products with Case Luggage.
If that wasn’t all, there’s also the chance to get involved in summer beauty Masterclasses, as well as innovative US beauty brand Stila solving all of your beauty travel woes with in-flight hydration fixes and tips for maintaining an effortless look as you step off a long-haul flight. This Works will also be on hand with their award-winning Deep Sleep range and expert advice and remedies on combating jet lag.
One of the highlights of the weekend will be the chance to meet with the American Airlines team at the South Beach cabana on the First Floor to enter a prize draw for a chance to win a trip to Miami including a four night stay at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel and £1000 worth of Tumi luggage from Case Luggage. There will also be complementary tasters from POPS – the premium ice lolly people – to cool you down while you enter.
There’s nothing more American than eating, and the Second Floor Bar and Brasserie are happy to oblige your hungry side with two new limited-edition menus – one savoury and one sweet. Sink your teeth into a delicious all-American dish, inspired by Stateside steakhouses and retro ice cream sundaes.
Start with a charcoal-grilled meat or fish main from their Josper grill, then take your pick from four diner-style ice cream desserts, featuring old-school American flavour combos such as peanut butter and jelly.
Lovers of Gin will also be happy to hear that Manchester Three Rivers will be popping into the Second Floor Bar so you can try some special cocktail concoctions, including the New York Hard Apple Pie or the Muir Woods Punch – specially created for this event.
To go perfectly with this booze, luxury LA based candy boutique Sugarfina will be taking residence in the Foodmarket offering gourmet sweet treats the like of which you’ve never seen before.

Finally, outside you will probably fail to notice internationally acclaimed street art muralist duo Nomad Clan who will be capturing the essence of the weekend live on canvas, right in front of the building. Should be the perfect opportunity to experience their unique art style and interpretation first hand and have a gawp at some real craft at work.
