The hit pre-loved multi-charity fashion store Charity Super.Mkt is to open a pop-up site in Manchester.

It’ll open its doors at Quayside MediaCity next month, and will be selling everything from vintage band t-shirts and used denim to old football shirts.

On the weekends, the store will feature DJs and other in-store events.

The concept was created by Red or Dead retail icon Wayne Hemingway and Maria Chenoweth.

Opening its first branch in the old Top Shop unit at London’s Brent Cross shopping centre in January this year, the store hit its first month target in just four days.

Since then, it’s sold more than 100,000 second hand items of clothing, prevented 30,000kg of clothes going to landfill, and stopped more than 260,000kg of CO2 emissions heading out into the atmosphere.

Wayne Hemingway said: “Fashion is changing as are the desires of younger shoppers who are more conscious than ever on the impact their spending has on the planet.

“The North of England has always been strong on community support and charity so we’re incredibly proud to opening here for the first time.

“There are so many incredible garments and styles that would otherwise be lost to the pages of fashion magazines, but we can keep them alive, give people the opportunity to shop in an incredibly affordable way and create unique looks, bring more sustainability into their lives, and give to truly worthwhile causes – what’s not to love.”

On top of the environmental benefits, the shops have also raised enough money to pay for 200 extra days of cancer nurses for Cancer Research UK, 15 days of emergency helpline cover for homeless charity Shelter, 3,000 hours of nursing care for Maria Curie.

It’s also paid for people with learning disabilities to gain part-time employment through social enterprise charity Brandon Trust.

Maria Chenoweth added: “My career and ambition has always been to promote second-hand fashion as the most impactful way to dress ourselves.

“The creation of Charity Super.Mkt has brought charity retailers into mainstream retail, gaining amazing locations that would have otherwise been inaccessible.”

Charity Super.Mkt will be open in Quayside MediaCity from November 2 – with a preview event from 6pm – to December 13 and will be announcing some special events soon.

Charities involved will include Age UK, All Aboard, Havens Hospices and St Vincent de Paul.
