Manchester will host the G20 Leaders’ Summit in 2027, bringing world leaders to the city for one of the year’s major international political and economic gatherings.
The summit will take place at Manchester Central Convention Centre on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November 2027, as the UK takes on the G20 presidency.
Heads of government from G20 members will travel to Manchester for the two-day meeting, alongside thousands of diplomats and representatives from international organisations.
US President Donald Trump will be among the leaders invited to attend. Invitations will be extended to all G20 members, with China’s Xi Jinping, Argentina’s Javier Milei and representatives of Russia also among those expected to receive them.
The G20 is made up of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the UK and the United States, alongside the European Union and African Union.
Together, its members account for around 85% of global GDP, more than 75% of international trade and around two-thirds of the world’s population.
Further G20 events are also expected to take place at locations around the UK during its year-long presidency.
The Manchester summit will be the first G20 Leaders’ Summit hosted in the UK since London staged the gathering in 2009, during the global financial crisis.
Leader of Manchester City Council Garry Bridges said: “It’s a huge honour to be chosen as the host city for the G20 and reflects the city’s growing international stature.
“We look forward to welcoming world leaders and thousands of delegates from across the globe and showcasing the best of what our city has to offer.
“The opportunities flowing from this major event as the eyes of the world are on Manchester are immense, both in the short term for our hospitality sector and in the longer term for attracting investment, visitors and jobs.”
Mayor of Greater Manchester Bev Craig said: “We’re proud to host the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Greater Manchester, and are ready to welcome people from across the world to our city region.
“Greater Manchester has changed the world over centuries as the home of innovation and trailblazing ideas, and is being recognised as an emerging star of the global economy.
“With the spotlight on us, we look forward to working with the Government to deliver a G20 Summit that will help boost growth and bring real benefits to people here and throughout the country.”
First Secretary of State Louise Haigh added: “Hosting the G20 in Manchester next year will be a moment of real pride for the whole of the UK.
“We will make the most of our presidency to seize opportunities for British people and showcase communities and industries the length and breadth of this country.
“The G20 will drive international discussion on the economy from right here at home and when we set that agenda we’ll be doing it with clear ambition to bolster British business and drive growth in every postcode.”
