Although it seems we’re always encouraging you lot to go out and have a great time in Manchester, here at Finest we do understand that many of us are more comfortable at home at the moment – and that’s okay!
Many of our independent bars and restaurants were encouraged by the March lockdown to introduce takeout, delivery and at-home services for the people of Manchester.
Their collective creativity was truly astounding and we’re seeing more and more home offerings introduced each day from our favourite independents!
One of my personal favourites is definitely The Lowry Hotel’s @HOME service – because who doesn’t want to bring a little bit of luxury into their own space?
Us lucky Mancs can now experience The River Restaurant’s DELICIOUS Sunday Lunch from our own homes. Delicious food and minimum effort, what’s not to love?
I decided to take all the hard work out of it this weekend, and let The River Restaurant’s chefs do all my stressing and this one really impressed me.
The Sunday Lunch Menu only cost £40 for two people and included four courses each!
The kit came with a super-clear set of instructions and individually wrapped, labelled components (I know this looks like a lot of plastic; but in keeping with their eco-conscious ethos, the team has used both biodegradable and easily- recyclable packaging)
With minimal cooking involved and simple heating instructions, each course provided an exciting journey and was actually really fun to make!
To start we enjoyed the Organic Sourdough with Chicken Fat Butter and Maldron Sea Salt.
Simple yet effective, this was the easiest dish to assemble and was the perfect starter to get us going.
Next up was their delicious take on a Crayfish and Prawn Cocktail.
Super tangy and delicious, it came with Avocado Mousse, Fennel, Tarragon & Sweetcorn Cream (I can confidently say I’ve never tasted a prawn cocktail like it)
Topped with Linseed Cracker for that added crunch, this was so quick and easy to assemble. Although, I have absolutely no idea if we presented it right – I think it looks good, anyway.
One thing I love about the guys over at The River Restaurant is their conscious effort to support local. Supporting like-minded Manchester businesses’, The Lowry Hotel purchases as many ingredients from local suppliers as they can, ensuring their freshness and sustainability.
The main event, of course, is the Roast Beef Dinner. A little cooking and assembly was required here, taking approx 40 minutes to complete.
The kit includes Yorkshire Puddings (they’re MASSIVE), Cauliflower and Lancashire Bomb Cheese, Honey Roast Carrot, Duck Fat Roasties, Braised Cabbage and a thick Beef Gravy.
The Cauliflower Cheese, Carrots and Roasties were the only things that needed cooking, and they came in these containers ready to pop in the oven.
Whilst they are crisping away, heat through the cabbage and the gravy in two separate pans and then pop the puds into the oven for the last 2 mins.
Add your meat then divide equally between the two plates – easy peasy! I can’t express how tasty this was.
I nearly couldn’t finish my dessert, but that would have just been rude.
To seal the deal, we enjoyed the pre-packed Sticky Toffee Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce, Clotted Cream & Sherry Soaked Raisins – am I allowed to say this was my favourite course?
SO much fun and super relaxing, the @HOME experience from The Lowry is my new favourite way to cook – I can’t wait to try some more (there’s also an Afternoon Tea kit!)
Booking is suuuper easy – choose your package and collection slot from the diary, then sit back and enjoy the tastes of The Lowry Hotel in the comfort of your home.
Be quick to get in for next week!
