Superbia and Pride Stages present Fabaret! Four truly theatrical outings from some of Manchester’s finest LGBTQ+ performers.

The final Festival Saturday night brings the glorious mirror-balled return of Fabaret! – a flamboyant queer revue featuring four shows for the price of none from Cheddar Gorgeous (Oh What a Lovely Lockdown), Taylor Le Fin (Common People), TomYumSim (Be My Embrace Now) and Jason Andrew Guest (Welcome to the Haus of Myztique), supported by Superbia and Pride Stages.

Featuring…

Oh What A Lovely Lockdown!
Join drag artist, activist and academic Cheddar Gorgeous and Laurie as they explore the experience and ‘blitz spirit’ of the pandemic in a new performance using spoken word, comedy and satire – drawing upon their experiences as eccentric-attention-hungry artists navigating loneliness with delusions, a plucky attitude, and a tune or two!

Common People
A lyrical tragicomedy of A Different Class. Dragged up, poor and queer in a 90’s Northern Town, Taylor Le Fin takes us on a tour of Misshapes, abandoned shopping trolleys, regrettable perms, and being saved by “Jarvis bloody Cocker!” Live music, spoken word, comedy and Britpop nostalgia blends with heart-aching accounts of self-discovery, survival, acceptance and hope. An uncommon insight into where trans-masculinity, poverty & class meet.

Be My Embrace Now
Created & Performed by TomYumSim, Be My Embrace Now is a gender bending, radical performance installation, combining live singing, audience singalong ‘Fabaoke’ (Karaoke, but bent!) and DIY inflatable puppet hands (yes, it’s happening). After a year without physical contact TomYumSim use the power of group singalong and dance to bring the audience of Festival Square together (as far as government regulations allow). Join TomYumSim (Tom Halls & Simone French) as they guide people through an absurd and radical release ritual!

Welcome to the Haus of Myztique
A showcase of QTIPOC Excellence from vocalist, dancer, choreographer and creative powerhouse Jason Andrew Guest, celebrating Black Queer artists, musicians, and icons through vocal house and high fashion. Expect Diva star quality and iconic fashion moments inspired by Diana Ross, Grace Jones, RuPaul, Naomi Campbell, Tyra, Naomi Sims and more.

DJ Kath McDermott will spin tunes before the show with party collective High Hoops picking up the baton afterwards.

Oh What a Lovely Lockdown and Welcome to the Haus of Myztique have been developed with a Pride Stages Bursary from the Greater Manchester LGBTQ+ Arts & Culture Network, an LGBT Foundation project, supported using public funding by the National Lottery by Arts Council England.

The Pride Stages Bursary is supported by The Met and Bury Pride, Waterside Arts and Pride in Trafford, The Lowry and Salford Pride, Oldham Coliseum Theatre and Oldham Pride, Manchester International Festival, and Manchester Pride.
