Steve Pimlott’s work is heavily focused on bold, abstract designs that depict landscapes, faces and body shapes.
The extensive series on show at The Talleyrand this month shows his use of large-scale, expressionist oils that encapsulate a unique approach.
His work is characterised by a strong sense of composition, novel techniques of paint application and a relentless search for the most interesting relationship of form and texture. This mirrors the methodology in Steve’s musical output.
Speaking of his work, Steve said: “On the surface of things music and painting are two very different disciplines. For me though, the conceptual variables between them are quite indistinct.
“I imagine it’s pretty clear to anyone who’s heard the music (I’ve written or recorded) that there’s a definite art school mentality underpinning the ideas.
“With the paintings, the musical influences are probably less apparent, certainly in my earlier stuff, but the work I’m producing now seems to place more emphasis on elements such as structure, form relationships and rhythm.”
The preview party will be held this Saturday 22nd January at The Talleyrand, from 7pm until late. The exhibition will then run daily between 4:30pm and 10pm every day until Friday 28th Jan, except on Sundays, where the exhibition will run from 2 – 9pm.
Named after Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord, the French diplomat and theologian who spent a period of exile in the area between 1792-1794, The Talleyrand is an eccentric independent bar that opened in Levenshulme back in 2018. The traditional boozer is known for its gorgeous selection of ales, as well as its jam-packed programme full of live music, DJs, poetry, art and film.
Whether it’s a night stood in front of bare chested punks, or there’s an independent film that’s caught your eye, the Talleyrand has got something for everyone.
