With festival season pending, we’re used to seeing line-ups complete with hundreds of bands and DJs, but this festival in Macclesfield next month is dedicated to something entirely different – the beloved pint of beer.

The Macclesfield Charity Beer Festival, taking place at Macclesfied Rugby Club, is a two-day event offering over 150 different types of beers, ciders and perries, as well as craft ales, wines, gin-based beverages and soft drinks for the designated drivers.

Taking place on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 May, the boozy weekender will open at 7pm each evening with DJs and live performances from a range of local musicians as punters explore pours of their favourite pints.

A beer festival without food would be dangerous, so lining the stomachs of those popping by over the weekend is a range of food vendors offering BBQ food, wood fired pizzas and Thai dishes all with vegetarian and vegan options, too.

Across Saturday daytime, a free to attend family-friendly day session will also be hosted at the site from 12-6pm, featuring vintage games, face painting, and market stalls all raising funds for Windyway Animal Sanctuary.

The Macclesfield Charity Beer Festival, now in its 26th year, is one of the region’s largest, longest running charity events. Across its history, the festival has raised over £300,000 for local causes, and 2023 will welcome a new main sponsor – The Cheshire Pub Co.

The name behind some of Cheshire’s most popular pubs, including the Churchill Tree in Nether Alderley, the Ship in Styal, the Frozen Mop in Mobberley, and the Crown and Conspirator in Bramhall, The Cheshire Pub Co joins returning sponsors SAS Daniels and Spiral Print.

Commenting on behalf of the Macclesfield Beer Festival Committee, James Hogben said: “We’re really excited to launch the Macclesfield Beer Festival for 2023 with some exciting new additions, including a great line-up of music, our most varied food offering to date, family entertainment and of course a fantastic selection of beers, wines, ciders, perries and gins.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to all of our fantastic sponsors, including SAS Daniels, Cheshire Pub Co, Spiral Print and Suburban Green, as well as our amazing volunteers and everyone that comes and supports the event each year. We look forward to welcoming you to Macclesfield Beer Festival 2023.”
