StreetSmart, the annual fundraising campaign uniting restaurants across Greater Manchester to support local homelessness services, is back – and this year, more restaurants than ever are taking part.
Launching on 1 November, the initiative will see participating venues add £1 to every bill throughout November and December, with every penny raised going directly to local homeless charities.
Supported nationally by property industry charity LandAid, StreetSmart ensures that all funds raised in Greater Manchester stay within the city region.
This year’s donations will go to organisations including Centrepoint, which funds Independent Living Advisors for young people, and Real Change Manchester, which works alongside existing homelessness charities to provide extra financial support where it’s most needed.

Glenn Pougnet, Director of StreetSmart, said: “The festive period can be an incredibly tough time for the vulnerable people in our community. StreetSmart provides a simple way for people to help some of our city’s most in need – giving back whilst dining out at Christmas is what StreetSmart is all about and we’re thrilled to have so many restaurants already taking part. Every £1 added to a bill adds up and makes a huge difference. There’s still time to sign up too, so if you would like to get involved please get in touch.”
This year’s campaign has also drawn support from Elbow frontman Guy Garvey, who said: “Every single one of us is a direct descendent of a desperate, homeless, hungry person. We don’t deal in fear and alienation in Manchester; we step up and help out.”
