Mr Cooper’s gets a new interior, new menu and new name: Mount Street Dining Room & Bar

It even features its own in-house butchery and smoker!

Mount Street Dining Room and Bar, the restaurant formerly known as Mr Cooper’s at The Midland Hotel, will open its doors today (September 1st), showcasing a new name, a timeless new interior and a distinctly British food and beverage offering.

The restaurant also features its own in-house butchery and smoker, enabling the team to utilise the smoking, charring, compressing and acid cooking methods used for delivering flavour and texture.

Using classic cooking techniques alongside well-sourced produce from around the North West and Yorkshire, Mount Street’s extensive menu has been created by The Midland’s Executive Head Chef Brian Spark.

Alongside a wide range of snacks, starters and main courses, including vegetarian and vegan dishes, there is also a selection of homemade individual pies, such as Beef Wellington, Wild Mushroom Pithivier and Chicken, Bacon and Leek.

The menu features an extensive grills section including Surf n Turf, 3 Bone Rack of Lamb and Spatchcock Goosnargh Chicken, all smoked and charred with the in-house Bailey’s smoker for extra flavour and texture.

Desserts include Chocolate Orange Flamed Alaska, Blackberry and Mascarpone Curd and a local classic, freshly baked Eccles Cake.

Diners can choose from nipping in for a small snack, celebrating an occasion over a three-course dinner, or enjoying some cocktails and a bite to eat with friends. In addition, with the restaurant open seven days a week, friends and family can get together and share a sumptuous roast dinner on weekends.

For the initial opening phase, there will be a midweek a la carte menu available Sunday to Wednesday, and a weekend a la carte menu on offer Thursday to Saturday. A Set Lunch Menu will launch in October, offering two courses for £18 or three courses for £22. There will also be a children’s menu and a full drinks menu available.

The restaurant is also ready to welcome guests who just want to enjoy a drink at the bar, with an extensive drinks menu offering a range of wines, cocktails and local beers on offer.

A modern British Dining Room, the concept for Mount Street is to bring together Northern hospitality and contemporary design, with a focus on sourcing great local ingredients and providing elevated home dining in luxe art deco surroundings. The design complements the history of the building, with all the finishes synonymous with the early 1900s.

The tall, elegant windows remain unchanged, allowing natural light to stream in, but the dining space has completely opened up, showcasing the size and space of the interior, accompanied by a stunning new bar and the introduction of a large clock above the door, as a link to The Midland’s heritage as one of the Fine Railway Company hotels.

The restaurant has implemented a number of health and safety protocols, with a five-point plan including the use of disposable menus and a cashless payment system, with guests waiting to be seated when they arrive.

Jason Carruthers, Managing Director of Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland, said: “We’re really looking forward to opening the doors at Mount Street Dining Room and Bar and we believe it’s going to be a great addition to the city. The North is famous for its hospitality and that will be key at Mount Street.

“Our Executive Chef Brian Spark has created a fantastic menu with a range of dishes that really showcases the team’s skillset and we believe having our in-house butcher and smoker really sets us apart. The décor has a timeless appeal which complements the historic nature of this iconic hotel, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere for people to come and enjoy a drink with friends or a bite to eat.”
