It’s not very often that I look to eat out on a lunch time, but when I do I want to know that I’m getting decent value for money, something delicious and best of all – a cheeky little beer to make the rest of the day run that little bit quicker.
Well, for just 10 Great British pounds you can get down to The Pen and Pencil in the Northern Quarter and take advantage of their fabulous lunch or brunch meal which, rather splendidly, comes with a drink included.

Available between Tuesday and Friday (Monday they have 50% OFF), the menu is separated into brunch (served from 10am) and lunch (served from 12pm), both served until 4 pm.
There’s plenty of choice on the menu, featuring some proper Pen & Pencil classics, as well as a few curveballs in there. For example, you’ll strangely find their Homemade Meatballs in the Brunch section, which is a bit odd – but welcome nonetheless, alongside a Vegan Full English Brekkie, and Grilled Halloumi & Asparagus.

Top of the list though in Brunch Land must be the mega Nduja Potato Hash with Poached Eggs, an absolutely cracking dish that will satisfy even the most hangry of appetites.
Lunch now and for vegans there’s their Herb Roasted Cauliflower Steak, an Old Bay Shrimp Wrap and the classic P&P Chicken Caesar Salad which is perfect for those days when you tell yourself that you “have to eat something healthy today”. Yeah right.

There’s also a brilliant BBQ Pulled Chicken with Chorizo but my personal favourite, and the thing that I’ll order here every single time – the Deep Fried Cheese & Prosciutto Sandwich.
Deep Fried Cheese & Prosciutto Sandwich
This beast is a thing of true beauty, with cheddar cheese and prosciutto tucked between two thick wedged of bread and then deep fried. You then get a pot of Manhattan dipping sauce on the side, which is a little bit like a thicker, spicier Gazpacho and goes perfect with the cheese.
The deal also includes a range of the classic soft drinks, a glass of house wine or a Modelo beer too which means there is something for everyone to wash it all down. Why not head down on your next ‘working’ lunch to make the most of this cracking deal!
