Buckhurst Lodgeside, Bury
A pop-up timber cabin near Ramsbottom that recently featured in the Guardian’s top 10 places to buy a takeaway picnic in the UK. A real haven for wildlife that’s been serving walkers and passers-by refreshments throughout lockdown. It’s surrounded by stunning countryside, and they’ve even got their very own man-made beach! Whilst there Matt tried one of their Cissy Green pies – a hand raised, meat-filled delight that was apparently loved by Winston Churchill. Diggle Lock, Diggle
Then it was just a swift trip in the Range Rover, over to Saddleworth where Matt stumbled upon Diggle Lock, a re-purposed textile mill serving breakfast and brunch, whilst showcasing local artisanal products, including a Saddleworth soap and bread made just ‘over the hill’ in Marsden. They’re well known for their French Toast, a HUGE doorstop of bread that’s topped with an outlandish array of sweet toppings – with enough to feed 2 hungry people, easily.
Grandpa Greene’s, Diggle
Just a stone’s throw from Diggle Lock is Grandpa Greene’s Luxury Ice Cream, a canal side shack serving up homemade desserts and sweet treats. It’s pretty much the go-to spot in the area whenever the sun’s out, drawing in huge crowds for their award-winning ice cream. Watch Matt get stuck into two of their Easter egg hot chocolate specials loaded with Mini Eggs and Creme Eggs, and tell us you don’t want to head there immediately!
Castleshaw Reservoir, Oldham
After a brief stop to take in some stunning views by Castleshaw Reservoir in Oldham, it was time to head back to the city to drop the car off. THE OUT will pick your vehicle back up from any M postcode, so Matt aligned this with a meetup with another new local business who also do drops to their customers within the city.
Vin De Bodega (back in the city)
Four lads passionate about natural wine, who curate a weekly selection of small-batch wines from all over the world, and then deliver them directly to wherever you may be in the city. These guys have only been doing this a few weeks but have already quickly gained a bit of a cult following, seeing their drops sell-out each week, fast.
