Okay, so I’ve been a little bit loose with the term “legends” here – I mean, don’t go expecting a Spotify playlist from Liam Gallagher or anything.

In fact, the people who’ve done the playlists aren’t really legends at all – they’re just a couple of bloody good blokes who just so happen to live in Stretford.

So when the team at the newly bought Streford Mall got in touch about doing a Spotify playlist for people to listen to during the lockdown – they decided to give it a whirl and I must say – they’re actually pretty bloody good.

First up is BBC6 Music (and Manchester’s Finest’s) Matt White, a man who needs no introduction and who is quite possibly one of the nicest fellas you’d ever meet.

Obviously, working for BBC6 Music means that he knows a thing or two about tunes, and his playlist is a collection of his favourite soul, funk, reggae, pop and rock – perfect for a party in your kitchen. Here it is…

Next up is Finest’s Head of Content Ben Brown – a man who is nowhere near as qualified or even as nice as Matt White, but made a playlist anyway.

If I’m being honest it’s actually alright – a collection of some of the best disco, funk and even a bit of Afro-funk in there for good measure – perfect for out in the back yard this weekend, on full blast with some tinnies and a roaring BBQ.

They’re set to add more guest ‘curators’ over the coming weeks, so keep an eye on that – as well as their Stretford Sounds – People’s Playlist – a collection of songs chosen by the people of Stretters.

Oh, and if you’re in the area – the brilliant Stretford Food Hall is still open, offering up groceries and booze from loads of local suppliers. Always worth a visit.
