Chin Chin feels like it’s always been there. A natural extension of Prestwich’s growing love affair with good food and great drink, this warmly lit wine bar on Bury New Road picks up where Dokes Pizzeria left off — and adds a thoughtful splash of something new.
The team behind Elnecot in Ancoats are the brains (and charm) behind it all, bringing their flair for detail and hospitality north of the city centre. Inside, it’s exactly what a neighbourhood bar should be: intimate, relaxed, unfussy. Expect dim lights, handwritten menus, the hum of good conversation, and an effortlessly cool playlist. The kind of place where the atmosphere hits just right and the pour in your glass is always on point.
The wine list is a careful, curated mix — some natural, some classic, always interesting. If you’re new to the funkier end of the spectrum, they’ll talk you through it. And if you just want a cold glass of something comforting, they’ve got that covered too. Guinness fans are welcome, and local brewers like Track have a place on the taps as well.
As for food, Chin Chin reimagines bar snacks with a distinctly British twist. Smoked mackerel pâté with pickled cucumber, sardines from Lyme Bay served with crusty bread, horseradish-flecked roast beef and caper ‘charcuterie’, local cheeses, tinned mussels, crisps and hummus dusted with hazelnut dukkah — these are the sorts of plates made for lingering over. Nothing fussy, just brilliant with a drink in hand.
