Where do you even start to introduce The Ivy? The name is synonymous with luxury food and stylish decadence, striking design and fabulous drinks, thanks to the abundant locations across London and the South East. So, the move north to Manchester, and specifically into the landmark Spinningfields neighbourhood, complete with roof terrace and multiple private dining areas, was huge news. Found in and amongst the very heart of corporate and big business Cottonopolis, this high end restaurant and bar enclave makes a big impression before you get through the door.
In a land of glass and steel, the Pavilion building is wood clad and draped in fawning green flora. The next thing you notice is the doorman waiting to greet and guide you. Straight on for the main event — a ground floor brasserie focused on modern British fair, served with flair for breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch on weekends. This is just one part of the story though. Upstairs, or rather up in the elegant mid-century styled elevator, you’ll then find more choices for opulent indulgence. These include Ivy Asia and Bar, which, as the name(s) suggest, offer contemporary Far Eastern cuisine and Pacific region inspired cocktails.
Within this haven for hedonistic foodies, you’ll also find multiple private dining areas. These include the Dalton Room, which can seat 20 surrounded by striking original artwork, thick gold curtains and multicoloured fabric chairs. Our favourite, the Skylight Terrace, is a rooftop greenhouse space with its own bar. And the Geisha Room boasts huge windows overlooking the neighbouring skyline, super modern canvases and Ming Dynasty-style vases. These interiors give a clue as to the quality of what’s being plated up — with The Ivy’s reputation built not just on these iconic eye-candy design choices, but high end culinary experiences with A La Carte, set two course, afternoon tea menus and more all done to impeccable standards.
