A licensed cafe, bar and restaurant brought to you by the team behind another Glossop institution, the Michelin-accredited restaurant, Hyssop, at The Two Hares Head Chef Paul Sykes takes influence from global cuisine and seasonal local produce alike to present ever-changing brunch, lunch and evening menus, alongside daily specials and freshly baked cakes. Meanwhile, a little slice, or full loaf, of central Manchester has also made its way out to this end of the Peak District via sourdough direct from legendary Ancoats bakery, Pollen. Oh, and then there are the fresh cannolis.
Dog and child friendly, the cosy atmosphere is perfect for relaxing with a midweek coffee, but equally suited to cocktails and A La Carte dining at the weekend. In so many ways, The Two Hares is the epitome of what you want from a country pub in the 21st Century, the food not only combining British and international cuisine, but also striking the perfect balance between contemporary and traditional, while always retaining real authenticity. The “infamous” Sunday Roasts, as the team describe them, are a case in point, with freshly prepared vegetables, roasties, Yorkshire puddings and, of course, lashings of gravy. Meat, meanwhile, is sourced from the hills that surround Glossop via local butcher, Mettricks.
It’s not all about the longest meal of the week, either. The Two Hares is ideal for laidback brunches, casual evening meals and intimate dates, or even just a quick caffeinated reviver after you’ve been out exploring the incredible countryside surrounding Glossop. Of course, those looking for something stronger can also find a strong cocktail game here, alongside a great wine list and suitably expansive beer selection. All less than 30 minutes by train from central Manchester and only a stone’s throw from some of Britain’s most jaw-dropping beauty spots, it’s an ideal food and drink destination for locals, day-trippers and weekend breakers alike.
