V. Goode Pies is what happens when people who really care about food decide to focus on one thing — and do it properly. From chefs Shaun Moffat and Sam Grainger, the team behind Winsome and Madre, this dedicated pie shop is built on the idea that great pies should be generous, affordable, and deeply comforting.

The menu centres on individual pies made to be eaten any way you fancy. Expect crowd-pleasing classics like meat & potato, roast chicken and stuffing, and cheese, potato & onion made with Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire cheese — alongside a wildcard lasagne pie packed with beef shin ragù, béchamel and pasta. Each one comes hot, hefty, and ready to be dipped.

You can keep it simple, drown it in gravy or curry sauce, flip it into a barm Wigan-kebab style, or go all in with the full pie dinner — mash, mushy peas, the lot. Early doors bring breakfast pies and breakfast barms until 11am, with rotating specials and collaborations keeping things interesting.

The name V. Goode is a tribute to Valerie Goode — co-founder Tom Fastiggi’s nan, a former dinner lady and certified pie authority — which feels about right. This is food rooted in canteens, communities and proper northern appetite, delivered with the skill of chefs who know exactly what they’re doing.
