WOOD launches nostalgic four-course lunch tasting menu

Starting in February, the fine-dining eatery has launched a new set lunch menu every Friday and Saturday for £40 per person.

WOOD Manchester is known for its innovative approach to food and fine dining, headed up by 2015 Masterchef winner Simon Wood and Head Chef Zarka Hussain. 

The restaurant focuses on locally sourced, British produce that celebrates UK heritage through one-of-a-kind, nostalgic dishes, and has now announced a Friday and Saturday lunch menu, which is a condensed version of the famous WOOD evening tasting menu.

Starting Friday 3 February, the new lunch menu is available as a standard or vegetarian menu and runs from 12 – 1.45pm every Friday and Saturday costing £40 per person or £60 if ordering with the three course wine pairing option.

It features the usual contemporary cuisine you expect from WOOD, keeping with the playful authenticity the restaurant always delivers. 

The dishes available on the tasting menu are truffled duck egg and soldiers, sweetcorn dashi, Mrs. Kirkham’s cheese with lovage and watercress, and finishing with breads and bacon.

On the vegetarian menu, the chefs at WOOD have developed a classy line-up of plant-based dishes using traditional vegetables and unexpected flavours. Mirepoix, fungi cooked over fire with leek and potato and truffle toast and brown butter artichoke with tonka and black apple all make the menu alongside the already vegetarian friendly truffled duck egg.

To book the lunch deal, you must quote WOOD40 in the booking notes when making your reservation. It’s a great introduction to WOOD’s seven-course lunch tasting menu, which usually costs £75 per person.

Simon, describing his tasting menu explained: “The finest suppliers in the country provide seasonal, high welfare, foraged exceptional produce. Which will be treated with the utmost respect.

“Salt, milk, butter, vinegars, wines, oils, herbs and spices must be of the highest quality throughout the restaurant. Amazing produce treated correctly, as in the end, any dish is only as good as the products you are using.”
