Salford’s Kallos Café & Wine Bar has been added to the Michelin Guide, less than a year after opening.

Inspectors for the revered restaurant guide praised it for ‘all-day dining, caring service and sumptuous flavours of the Mediterranean’, calling it a neighbourhood operation diners could easily return to ‘week after week’.

The entry also highlighted its evening meze offerings: topped flatbreads – the lamb-shoulder version described as ‘terrific’ — a comforting chickpea stew, and a selection of high-end tinned fish among its stand-out dishes.

Owners Ivan and Ioanna reacted with pride. “Today is the day all the hard work of our team was truly recognised. Kallos was created with the intention and belief that hospitality begins with our people and through them, it reaches our guests,” they said.

“We’re incredibly proud to have a team that lives these values every day, lifting each other up with care, kindness, and genuine hospitality. This morning, we woke up to the news that we’ve been added to the Michelin Guide.

“For a small business like ours, in our very first year of operations, this is huge. It happened because of our team’s dedication to every plate that leaves the kitchen, every welcoming smile, and every story we share with each wine we serve.”

Since opening in Greengate’s Cortland at Colliers Yard, Kallos has offered a day-to-night dining concept: brunch and café-style fare during daylight hours and a relaxed meze-and-wine atmosphere in the evening, rooted in Mediterranean and Greek flavours, with a wealth of tinned fish also featuring on the menu.

Kallos’s inclusion joins a wave of recent additions from Greater Manchester in the Guide. Newcomers from this latest round include venues such as Winsome, Pip, Bangkok Diner’s Club and Cantaloupe, alongside the likes of more established names like Erst, The Spärrows, Higher Ground, El Gato Negro and Adam Reid at The French, as well as the city’s Michelin-starred stalwarts mana and Skof.
