Surrounded by students, studios and a new wave of city energy, Tsujiri’s second Manchester home feels like a modern step forward for a heritage name. The second Manchester outpost from the 160-year-old Kyoto tea house brings everything that makes the original beloved — vibrant green matcha, handcrafted desserts, and warm Japanese hospitality — and places it in a glass-fronted, contemporary café space that feels effortlessly current.
This location builds on the traditions of Tsujiri’s roots while embracing a more fast-paced energy. There’s always a hum here: students stopping in for soft serve, office workers picking up an iced yuzu tea, and groups sharing slices of matcha basque cheesecake between lectures or meetings. But even with its central location and constant flow, the feel remains considered — with a calming colour palette and neatly displayed desserts that invite a second glance.
As with all Tsujiri shops, everything revolves around the matcha. Imported from Kyoto, the green tea powder finds its way into velvety sundaes, iced lattes, custard-filled buns, and even shortbread cookies. Alongside the sweets is a growing list of take-home items too — from tins of ceremonial-grade matcha to ready-to-brew blends for home sipping.
