The end of the year is approaching, and this month’s new openings is full of new places to try for family meals, cosy date nights, and after-work drinks and dancing. Basically everything you need, unless you fancied a night in.
We can’t help with that. Sorry.
Blank Street Oxford Road
The mint-green caffeinated beverage phenomenon expands further in the city, opening a new spot on the corner of Oxford Road and Portland Street and the place is a haven for drinks of all pastel shades. Their offering composed a rainbow of matcha-based drinks, from those infused with blueberry to white chocolate. Don’t pretend you’re too cool to get onboard…
Bullgogi – Open now
The self-proclaimed ‘biggest Korean BBQ restaurant in the UK’ has finally opened in Piccadilly Gardens (in the old M&S Foodhall unit, for those who remember). It’s a choose-your-own-adventure type set-up, with a lunch menu of pre-prepared bowls, or the full roster of BBQ options, which is served throughout the day. We’re especially excited to try those impossibly crispy prawn pancakes.
Choza de Burrito – Open now
Stanley Square favourites Petisco have taken their wildly popular approach to tapas, and applied it to the burrito. Seek out the blue and white caravan in the centre of the precinct and enjoy beef brisket, chicken and cassava varieties – served both naked and tortilla’d – as well as sides like corn ribs and jalapeño poppers. They’re even doing churros and ice cream for afters.
Federico – Open 14 November
Promising a taste of aperitivo culture in Manchester City Centre, Federico is set to open on Pall Mall (between King Street and Albert Square) this November. Expect charcuterie, cocktails, curated wines and spritzes, aimed squarely at post-work drinks with a little je ne sais quoi.
Little Lotus – Open now
A new ‘grab n go’ lunch option in Piccadilly Gardens – but don’t let that put you off. Little Lotus serve noodles, sushi, rice bowls and poke, basically all the things you want for a tasty lunch that won’t leave you snoozing at your desk come 3pm. We’re talking teriyaki, katsu, curry udon and even Japanese desserts.
Soho House Manchester – Open 25 November
The one we’ve been waiting for, Soho House Manchester finally opens this month. This sterling worldwide brand has outposts all over, and now we’ve got our very own at the bottom of Quay Street. And it’s got a rooftop swimming pool. Enough said.
Tangerine – Open now
Opening Halloween weekend, Tangerine is a seven-kitchen canteen, martini bar and music hall spread across two huge railway arches, created by a collective of the city’s independent chefs, designers and hospitality heads. Inside you’ll find seven truly independent artisan kitchens, from a Parisian inspired Ukrainian family bakery to a taco kitchen to ramen counters, burger shop, and a new Dutch-Japanese collaboration of fries and yakitori skewers – plus a 40-tap bar pouring craft beer and seven kinds of espresso martini.
To Be Frank – Open now
The spot vacated by the much-missed Another Heart To Feed on Stevenson Square wasn’t likely to stay empty for very long. To Be Frank is the newcomer, a loft-like space with retro furniture, loads of beers on tap, decent offers on the house pilsner, and live music. A new one to add to your NQ rotation.
The Station House – Open now
Following a £1m refurb, the popular Cheadle Hulme pub formerly known as Platform 5 and honestly, it’s exquisite. Lush tiling, brass fittings, and sumptuous booths abound in this family pub which is now under the joint leadership of brewery Joseph Holt and Almond Family Pubs. The menu if full of the sorts of things you want to eat at this time of year – from lamb shank to pie to lasagne.
Rodeo – Open now
The London doughnut sensation comes to the Northern Quarter – Stevenson Square in particular – which is already dense with excellent bakery options. Toppings are colourful and inspired by treat cupboard favourites, like Lotus biscuits and Oreos, as well as a distinctive fluorescent pink ‘D’oh-nut-, which you might recognise as being from a certain yellow carton universe.
Posie – Open 4 November
From the team behind the roundly-adored 10 Tib Lane and Henry C in Chorlton comes Posie. Just a hop from the madness of Market Street, this oasis of calm will provide excellent cocktails and thoughtful small plates to go with them. Prepare for it to become your new regular.
Mckeown’s Slices – Open Now
Kyle Mckeown had never made a pizza until a couple of years ago. Now he’s an absolute dab hand, throwing out pies and slices from this tiny, former taxi rank in Levenshulme. These New York-style pizzas are spot on, simple but highly effective, with just a handful of variations on the menu. You can order and take home, or grab a pie and head over to the Horseshoe pub over the road and pair it with a pint or two.
